Check your baggage allowance

If you have an upcoming flight and want to double-check your baggage allowance, go toMy trips.

You may also add extra bags if you need to.

Check the cost for extra baggage in our additional services fees section.

Baggage allowance for flights in Mexico

We have three fares: Vuela Basic, Vuela Classic, and Vuela Plus, so you can fly with the baggage you need. This baggage policy applies for domestic flights in Mexico as of June 28, 2022. If you booked your flights before that date, your benefits do not change. You can check your baggage allowance in your booking confirmation email.

Vuela Basic

This preferential fare includes:

■ 1 personal item (must fit under the seat in front of you)

■ 1 light cabin bag that measures 22 x 16 x 10 in each (length x width x height).

The combined weight of the personal item and the cabin bag must not exceed 22 lbs.

Plan and avoid unexpected charges at the airport

The space for cabin baggage is subject to availability.

Fees apply if you exceed your allowance. Check the cost for extra baggage in our additional services fees section.

If you need to take more than 22 lbs, add extra weight when booking your flights. Remember that baggage is more expensive at the airport.

Learn the difference between personal items, cabin baggage, and checked baggage

Personal item

What is a personal item?

A personal item may be, for example, a backpack, handbag, briefcase, or laptop bag, that fits under the seat in front of you.

Cabin baggage

What is cabin baggage?

The cabin baggage depends on the flight type, domestic or international. There are two types of cabin baggage for domestic flights in Mexico: light and standard. Light: a light cabin bag may have or not have wheels, and it must weigh no more than 22 lbs combined with the personal item. Think small suitcase or carry-on. Standard: a standard cabin bag may or not have wheels, and it must weigh no more than 44 lbs combined with the personal item. Think suitcase or carry-on. For international flights, cabin baggage must not exceed 22 lbs, and it may be a bag with or without wheels.

Checked bag

What is a checked bag?

Checked bags are those that travel in the aircraft cargo hold. You must check them in at our airport counters 2 hours before departure for domestic flights and 3 hours for international flights.

Extra baggage

Cabin baggage

For flights in Mexico with the Basic fare, you may add 22 extra lbs to take a total of 44 lbs between two cabin bags.

If you purchase extra weight, you'll get priority boarding and preferential space for your cabin baggage (subject to availability).

For international flights with the Basic and Classic fares, you may add an extra carry-on bag not exceeding 22 x 16 x 10 inches. The maximum allowed weight between the two bags will be 22 lbs.

Remember that it is always cheaper to add your bags when booking your flights than at the airport.

Checked baggage

For an additional fee, you may take up a total of 5 checked bags of no more than 55 lbs and 62 total in (length + width + height) each.

If your baggage exceeds the maximum allowance, a fee will apply. The maximum permitted for overweight baggage is 99 lbs.

To know more about the baggage overweight fees, check out the additional services fees.

If you paid for an extra bag and would like to check in a sports item in its place, you can do so at no additional cost as long as it does not exceed 55 lbs and 62 total inches. If you exceed the maximum allowance, an additional charge applies. To get more benefits, you can also add the sports equipment service.
