Airport Use Fee (TUA)

We know that every journey is unique, and so are your needs. That’s why you now choose when to pay the TUA.

What is the TUA?

The Airport Use Fee (TUA) is a charge that airports impose for the use of their facilities. It applies per passenger and is set independently by each airport.

The TUA is not a Volaris fee, but we now give you the flexibility to decide when to pay it: either during your booking process or before you check in.

Remember: You must pay the TUA to check in and board your flight.

How the new flexibility works:

  1. When booking, select the “Pay later” option.

  2. After completing your purchase, go to My Trips.

  3. Enter your reservation code and last name.

  4. Pay the TUA up to 2 hours before your flight’s departure.

It’s that simple and flexible!

Remember: this option is only available for purchases made on volaris.com or through our app.

How much does the TUA cost?

The amount of the TUA varies depending on the departure airport. Each airport sets its fee, which may vary month-to-month.

*During the first 7 days of each month, fees may change due to airport updates. The final amount will be reflected at the time of your purchase or when you complete your payment in My Trips.

If you are a no-show, you can find more information in our Frequently Asked Questions.

Frequently asked questions

What happens if I don’t pay the TUA?

If you don’t pay the TUA, you won’t be able to check in or get your boarding pass, whether via the app, website, kiosk, or ticket counter.

Furthermore, you will be denied boarding, and no refund applies if you can’t travel. To avoid issues, we recommend paying in advance, especially if you choose the option to pay it later.

Can the TUA amount change if I choose to pay later?

Yes. The TUA amount may vary if you opt to pay later. Volaris does not control or guarantee the fee amount in case of subsequent changes by the airport.

For which flights does this deferred-payment option apply?

This option applies to domestic and international flights with origin in Mexican territory.

Can I pay the TUA after my flight?

No. The TUA must be paid before your flight departs. Remember, this is an airport requirement to check in and board your flight.

Which payment methods can I use for the TUA in My Trips?

You can pay with a credit card, debit card, or electronic voucher.

Which fare classes include this option?

You can defer the TUA payment with any of our fares: Basic, Classic, and Plus.

Can I request a refund if I paid the TUA but couldn’t travel?

For more information or to request a refund, please contact us via our contact form.

For flights originating in Mexico: Although tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable, if you cancel your reservation within 24 hours of purchase, you may request a refund of the Airport Usage Fee and/or taxes, either in cash, by bank transfer, or as an electronic credit—your choice.

If you do not cancel within that period or you miss your flight for reasons not attributable to Volaris or the operating carrier, you may request a refund of the paid Airport Usage Fee and/or taxes within 30 days following the date of the missed flight. The refund will be issued as an electronic credit.
